Artist Statement
I construct functional sculptures and furniture out of found objects and re-purposed material. Most of my pieces consist of wood, metal (preferably rusted) and small trinkets used for accents. The forms I gravitate towards the most are tables. The challenge of creating a flat horizontal surface has such simple requirements giving me just enough freedom and restriction to allow my creativity to flourish. I experiment with transforming multiple singular objects into one unified surface. My projects range from simplistic sculptures intended for viewing to complex heavy furniture intended for action and impact. I am inspired by the discarded, broken furniture and aged material people overlook. I utilize these items’ unconventional characteristics with an elegance that betrays its humble origins to create furniture. Most of my projects aim to invite the viewer to touch and challenge the strength of my furniture. I require each piece to meet an appealing aesthetic form while also invoking utilitarianism. This perfect combination of the two, ultimately create the quality and taste I signature each piece with.
